Tar / RMS Untar
Introduction
The RMS Tar and RMS Untar applications let you:
- Drag and drop files onto their icons to Compress / Expand the
file data in .tgz compression format
- The .tgz format used is the built-in Apple Mac OS X format
that supports resource forks
- This .tgz format is required by other RMS applications (e.g.
RMS Server)
System Requirements
CPU: Any PowerPC Macintosh or PowerBook
Memory Usage: 1MB
Disk Usage: 1MB + however much space is needed to store compressed/expanded data files
Network: n/a
OS: OS X 10.4 or later required in order to support resource forks
Software Components
- RMS Tar (v3.8)
- RMS Untar (v3.8)
Software Installation
- Simply copy the application files to anywhere on your
disk.
Software Setup
Notes
- Drag and drop onto the application icon to Tar-Gzip or
Untar-Gzip
- Preserves resource forks
- Is compatible with the Mac OS X .tgz used by the RMS system;
it may not be compatible with other generic .tgz utilities (like
StuffIt Expander)
- RMS Tar can accept a single file or folder dragged onto it
(multiple items do not work)
- RMS Untar can accept a single .tgz dropped onto it (multiple
items do not work)
